Studios
Meeting facilities
The wonderful natural surroundings and Harakka’s history provide plenty of inspiration for the artists. The island´s main building has nearly thirty studies designated for artists as well as meeting facilities that are freely available for hire.
PLAN
Professional artists of various kinds have used the three-storey main building on Harakka island since 1989. Now commonly known as the Artists’ house, the building has a total of 30 studios that only seldom become available for rent. Painters and artisans who live in Helsinki have priority in applications.
The studios and furnishings are rented out on five-year contracts. Tenants may not spend the night on the premises.
Studios that become available are advertised on our website and on the website news feeds of the Cultural Office. Applications are accepted only when the availability of a studio has been advertised. It is not possible to wait for studios to become available.
Artists working on Harakka cross to it in their own rowing boat. At times in late autumn, the sea wind can be so strong it forces Harakka tenants to abandon their attempt to cross. There is no alternative but to hope for better luck next day!
In the winter, the island can be reached via a walkway over the frozen sea. The wonderful natural surroundings and Harakka’s history provide plenty of inspiration for the artists. At Harakka you can withdraw from the hustle and bustle of everyday life to savour the silence and gain the strength needed to meet your creative challenges.
